An experimental study on the flexibilty character of IMZ implant

Abstract
In specfic clinical situation, anatomic or economic limitation may require the connection between an osseointegrated implant and a natural tooth with a fixed partial denture. In such situation, there is a unique set of problem, stress concentration in the surrounding bone of implant, because the osseointegiated implant is in direct bone unlike the natural tooth with its resilient periodontium One way to avoid high stress concentration on the bone sorrounding the implant is the use of viscoelastic component between the superstructure and the implant like polyoxymethylene intramobile element (IME).
The investigations conducted in the present study were designed to show whether IMC polyoxymethylene ME of 1 MZ implant system would have the sufficient effect on vertical displacement of the superstructure.
In addition, using different numbers of the implant( one or two or three implants ) as posterior abutment or abutments, their relative effects on the vertical displacement of the superstructure were evaluated.
Vertical displacements of the cantilever superstructure were measured with Instron(Model 4301,USA). And two-way ANOVA was conducted to determine differences in vertical displacement of the superstructure, and Scheffe F-test was applied for futher exploration.
The obtained results were as follows,
1. IMC polyoxymethylene ME in group with only one implant was effective in increasing vertical displacement of the superstructure (p<0.01).
2. Vertical displacements of the superstructure in groups with only one implant were higher than that of the groups with two or three implants(p<0.01).
3. In groups with two or three impinats, there were no significant differences in vertical displacement of the superstructure among groups regardless of with or without IMC polyoxymethylene IN E /or number of implants (p>0.01).
